The Dallas Cowboys continued raiding the Pittsburgh Steelers' roster, acquiring cornerback Joey Porter Jr. on September 30 for a sixth-round pick in 2027 and a second-rounder in 2028. It is the third Steelers-to-Cowboys trade in two years, following the George Pickens deal in May 2025 and the Broderick Jones move this August.
Porter, 26, was the 32nd overall pick in 2023 and has developed into a premium cover corner, but he missed Pittsburgh's first three games with a conditioning and back injury designation. Eligible for an extension after his third season, he never reached a deal with the Steelers, who traditionally do not negotiate during the season.
Some in Pittsburgh speculated Porter's absence had more to do with contractual maneuvering than health. Either way, Dallas lands a young lockdown corner for a modest draft price, and the pipeline between the two franchises keeps flowing.
