Takuma Inoue remains the WBC bantamweight champion after outpointing Tenshin Nasukawa in their Tokyo rematch, winning by unanimous decision with scores of 114-113, 116-111 and 116-111. Nasukawa dropped Inoue in the seventh and chased a finish, but the champion took over down the stretch to prove, for the second time, that he is simply the better fighter.
On the same Tokyo weekend, Australia celebrated a new world champion as Sam Goodman defeated former champion Ryosuke Nishida by unanimous decision (114-111, 115-110, 116-109) to claim the interim IBF super-bantamweight title, surviving a chaotic eighth round in which both men lost points.
South Africa's Ricardo Malajika also left Tokyo with gold, edging a split decision to become WBC super-flyweight champion.
