The Padres' new ownership group has only been on the job a few weeks, but it has already learned one of the unwritten requirements in San Diego: take a shot at the Dodgers whenever possible.
Speaking with reporters on the field before Game 2 of the NL Wild Card Series against the Cubs, co-owner José E. Feliciano was asked about the Dodgers and owner Mark Walter. After jokingly asking if the conversation was off the record — it was not, with cameras and reporters surrounding him — Feliciano delivered the line anyway: 'The owner of the Dodgers owns a lot of dinosaurs.'
Dodgers fans quickly interpreted the remark as a dig at an aging Los Angeles roster loaded with veterans in their mid-to-late 30s. Social media lit up in response, with 'We're living rent free in their head' becoming a common refrain and at least one fan suggesting Dodger Stadium be renamed 'Jurassic Park.'
The Padres host the Cubs in their best-of-three wild-card series, with the winner advancing to face the top-seeded Milwaukee Brewers in the NLDS.
